SOTUs

ESSAY TIME.

Okay, so SOTU (I accidentally put it as SOTFU which would fit, I guess) for characters. Mostly, in particular, for Kaito since there are THINGS I need to address in order to play him better. You know, when I can play him.

OKAY, FOR THE RECORD. MY SCHEDULE SUCKS. It's very moon-timey and such, but really, honestly, if people want to thread with me, LET ME KNOW. I will even do the one-comment per day thing. I need and want to get back into the habit of RPing more often in spite of my terrible schedule.

Currently Sundays and Mondays are the best days to get a hold of me during non-moontime hours.

With that said, onward with the characters!

Izaya aka Pecha

Is hilariously doing rather well. He's actually quite bored. Well, he was, but there have been some Ophi things that have piqued his curiosity and his interest some. Just as he thought, Nishi/Ninja is providing endless amusement and distraction. It also doesn't hurt that Nishi seems to be the kind of person who can grasp the sorts of things Izaya likes and is obsessive about. On the other hand, Nishi is on the OPPOSITE SIDE of this particular spectrum, making for an interesting, surprisingly cohesive and productive duality between the two.

As for other teammates, pretty much Izaya sees them as good pawns to use. Well, some of them have better roles, but they all for his own use. That's not to say he doesn't like them. He does. Well, not PERSONALLY, but because they're HUMAN. (Well, Haru's 1/4 not-human, but that just makes it interesting to determine which are the human instincts and which are the feline.) However, the one other teammate that has been getting Izaya's attention somewhat is Roy/Blaze.

This is largely because Roy is A GOOD PERSON AT HEART. While Roy is willing to do terrible things to get the job done, he regrets and he laments and he tries to make things better for others if he can do so. So far, this is what Izaya has seen of Roy. He has also seen that Roy can be a bit of a flirt and can be selfish in some regards, but largely, when you have a person like this in the midst of two anti-social personalities, 1 Haru, and 1 Ash, it's the kindness that gets the most notice. Again, Izaya likes him. But largely, it's on a I Like All Humans basis. Roy hasn't really been terribly interesting except when he interacts with Nishi. Because THERE is some hilarious opposite types rubbing against each other the wrong way, producing hilarious results.

As for himself, Izaya sort of sees himself as the one who pulls the strings in the background for Uroboros. Possibly some of his teammates might take offense to that, but then again, he'd just point out how they always seem to come to him for answers eventually. Because that's what Izaya has been building up since he woke in Sabra: information. On how things are, were, possibly will be in Sabra. The people who have come and gone, the different behavioral patterns he's noticed with the different teams. Rivalries, relationships, and things of those natures. Not only that, but Izaya's been the one who was first to do a lot of things. The first to wake up with the Guardian, the first to get a patron for himself... things like that.

It's a bit conceited but on the other hand, it's pretty justified since Izaya is able to subtly (and not so subtly with some people--Nishi's just more fun when he's aware of what's going on but can't do anything to stop it) prod his teammates into doing what needs doing. Or what he wants done. There has yet to be a case where someone has called Izaya straight-out on his bullshit, and really, Izaya's half-expecting it to happen eventually, but he also figures the case is that he is surrounded by followers. And he himself is the type to not really be attached to any one thing. After all, it would be almost a crime if he followed someone who couldn't meet special requirements Izaya may have for them. Not only that, but he loves all humans. To settle on just one would be crime too, wouldn't it?

But basically, Izaya's been chilling. He's pretty settled in Sabra. The one thing that would probably be most odd to the people of Sabra, however, is if they learn that he has only had 3 memories TOTAL since wakening in Sabra La Tau. And he is not terribly interested in recovering his memories. That's not to say that he doesn't want them all back eventually, but the way he sees it is that they're simply not necessary. He is the person who he is. He honestly doesn't think that he was any different a person before coming to Sabra. So, as this is the case, when he thinks that he should take another memory (for more information or even if he's simply bored by what he knows now), he will work to get that memory with little issue. For now, though, he's satisfied where he is currently. Though a bit bored.

The Meta-Crisis Doctor aka Aven

Has not been very active lately. A large portion of this can be blamed on the last memory he took involving the lololtastic events on the planet of Midnight. Couple that memory with other experiences in Sabra and Aven's got a pretty jaded view of other people right now. Not only that, though, but he's also a bit insecure with himself as a person.

He's honestly a bit uncertain as to the kind of person he is. Generally, he figures himself as someone like this Doctor that they all know, a person who helps people, who saves them and is able to make everything better. It's what he aspires to be since that's the kind of person at least one of them remember him as. On the other hand, Sabra has continuously proved him wrong on this. He has not been able to make anything work out for the people he cares about. They're murdered, eaten, or forced to kill and eat other people. And what has he done in the past to help them? "Try to make the body count lower than it could be" which backfires beautifully and ends with a higher body count than they all had hoped.

Add to this his realization thanks to his memory about his conflicted feelings regarding the human race and basically, he's kind of at a loss. Because that memory is has the Doctor doing what the Doctor does and trying to help people and help this new form of life understand the world around it... but it all backfires. It's terribly familiar how it goes from bad to worse. But the thing is that this is the Doctor. Aven's sort of been doing a mental separation, compartmentalizing system up until this point, but recalling this memory actually does show him that the Doctor is fallible and terrible things have happened to where the Doctor couldn't do anything to help anyone, least of all himself. On top of that, you have the issue where he's severely disappointed and angry and trauma'd by the occurrence that he's pretty bitter toward the human race at the end of the memory.

The worst thing? Aven can tell by this memory that this is not the first time something like this has happened with humans. There's an impression of generally typical behavior of people. And that's the most unsettling part.

So on the whole, Aven's been withdrawn and not really open to discussing seriously things. Off-screen, he's likely been cheerful and nice and playful with people like usual outwardly, but inwardly, he's still a bit of a confused mess. Mostly there's the conflicting thoughts of "I am the Doctor" and "I am not the Doctor." The last time anyone has talked with him about his troubles was, I believe, Jace, and Aven very directly told Jace that he wasn't ready to deal with people on certain level, so he would keep himself closed off psychically. However, Aven has been easing up on that a little. Now, whenever he thinks about the memory, he just remembers the fact that Jake had been there the whole time with him taking the memory--as a tiger--because if he could have, he would have run and... instead, he dumped all of that on Jake. Baww.

So yeah, Aven's been pretty stable, but there's definitely some more of an identity crisis coupled with God You Humans fondness/disappointment/anger. It's a fun place to be, let me tell you.

Kaito aka Kid aka Jinx

Let's start with the experience in the Pillar.

Okay, so in the reapp, I put that time in the Pillar had helped to stabilize Kaito mentally due to there being no place to hide, no one playing favoritism, and all three personalities getting the brunt of what all goes on when the Old Man has a Blank. I would say that at first, there would have been fighting between Jinx and Kid but then there just wasn't time. No time, no energy, just no point in it at all. And from that point on, it was mostly about survival and getting out of that place as fast as possible--which turned out to be way way too long for his tastes.

So this is why in that post with Kaito escaping the Pillar, there's three different parts of him focusing on different things. One going "no can't too much can't go on", "just a little bit more just a little bit more", and "omg omg omg I'm almost there I'm almost there". Really, to be honest, all three personalities have had at least one of those reactions at some point or another, but it wasn't until he'd pull himself out enough that Mirror was able to spot him and try to help him, that all three of them came to a firm agreement of "I will get the fuck out of this place". Et voila, he escaped. With some assistance from Mirror. And immediately upon escaping, Mirror takes him to her realm and essentially coddles and pets and possesses Kaito.

Note: he did not mind this in the slightest. Except perhaps when she said again that she should keep him.

Personally, Kaito wouldn't have mind staying there a bit longer, but he could tell that there was something going on (suddenly, there were two voices for Mirror again. that's weird, right? did something happen?) and that possibly wasn't a safe thing. But still, he is a bit more endeared to Mirror than he was thanks to the assistance and then taking to some place quiet and separated from everything that is Sabra La Tau. It did a lot for helping him initially recover from the strain of having just escaped the Pillar. Sadly, it didn't last and he got tossed into the river in the South Block, where his teammates and other people find him.

THERE ARE SUDDENLY A LOT OF PEOPLE AND HE JUST ESCAPED AND HIS PERSONALITIES WERE FUNCTIONING TOGETHER EXCEPT NOW WHAT DO? WHICH MASK DO I WEAR--oh, forget about it. Too tired to cope with anything right now. Would be the overall thoughts regarding this.

And that's generally how it's been since then. Kaito has been slowly making his way back into a familiar routine. The only difference is that he's become more of a shut-in. He finds every excuse to avoid going out if he can help it, and all three of himself are too tired to motivate him enough to leave Hydracula. Largely, it has to do with the Pillar experience, but mostly if he could admit it to himself, it has to do with the fact that he's off-balance and has been so since escaping the Pillar. He's relearning how to cope in Sabra thanks to his personalities taking on a more unified front, which causes uncertainty in his acts toward other people.

Hilariously, though, it's thanks to this that Jinx has slowly started to gain more of a presence while the other two are still mostly burnt out on what happened.

So, of course, he was genuinely surprised when Dove stopped by. He was even more surprised when he discovered than Fang and Sparta apparently had a hand in this or something. This, of course, was a good positive thing.. It just also threw in old conflicts as well, such as the one with Lucky not wanting people from other teams to visit them. Relationship status or no. So these points also have been a strengthening element to primarily Jinx and then Kaito.

Another aspect of things has to do with his relationship with his teams. Currently, as I said, Kaito is having trouble finding his proper footing again. Of course, there have been gains and losses to both Hydra and Vulpecula, and it's not something Kaito is used to. Before he went into the Pillar, there had only been two occurrences of that--one with Rex and one with Trixie--plus Black returning from the Pillar. So when Kaito escapes the Pillar, he finds out that 1) Zel has won, 2) Black is gone again, and 3) Arson and Boomer were added to the team at some point. And it seems as though Arson has something against him. For some... reason. Whatever.

It's not that Jinx is that dismissive of the whole thing but more that he doesn't know what he can do to remedy the situation. It also doesn't help that Arson seems to know that Kaito isn't all there or all right in the head, but he doesn't seem to know the reasonings behind it. Which Jinx is more than happy to keep under the wraps until all is revealed. Couple this with Trixie and Chika refusing to let him feal with things himself and instead try to provide support and... well. Alien concept to Jinx right there. Because one of the first things Jinx was taught when he was a wee little Blank was that he should suck it up (Chika actually was one of the ones who taught him that along with Lucky). Yet, Jinx is willing to accept this change, at least, because it keeps him saner and able to sleep at night.

Moving outside of the team spectrum, there are the people that Kaito used to talk with all the time before the Pillar who he is now sort of but not really but yes just a bit avoiding. Red, Quartz, and Ikki might find themselves having a hard time with getting anything out of the thief, but that's pretty much how it's always gone. Add Dove into the mix and things get a little bit more complicated. Because. feeeeelings. what does I do? Especially when I am way way not okay in the head?

So in general, Kaito is doing well balancing with Jinx but Kid is kind of being closed off and there's hilarious amounts of avoiding other blanks and yet wanting to talk to Mirror again except, no. That's a terrible idea. But he does want to. And crushes and team leaders being stubborn about people over to visit... in some aspects, the situation is hilariously similar to when Kaito started as a blank. In other aspects... it's like he's going to hit a patch of black ice any moment and will go careening off the edge by mistake and discover that this semblance of sanity was just another version of Poker Face.

tl;dr, god, Kaito, why did you ever decide to go through with this whole thing? Oh, right. Personal vendetta and stopping criminal-murderers who are looking for eternity. 8|a It should be worth a little insanity, right?

And my brain is officially fried for the night.
